THE UK Loves Fashion event organized by the Shanghai International Fashion Centre and the Cultural and Education section of the British Consulate-General is to be held at CITIC Square in Shanghai from March 25 to April 3. The purpose of the event is to highlight young British creativity, focusing particularly on British fashion. Ten young graduates - all working within creative industries including fashion, product/furniture, architecture, web design, jewellery, shoes, and accessories - will present themselves as life-size mannequins in specially designed showcases, each decorated and styled by the designer in his or her own designs or favourite style. One extra showcase will allow visitors to participate in the exhibition as models. Their photos will be entered into a competition entitled Fashion Star. The winner will receive two round-trip tickets to London provided by Virgin Atlantic Airlines for London Fashion Week, accommodation for four nights in a three star or above hotel and a tour of London. Kim Jones, one of the British designers of the exhibition, will be present in person at the event to talk to visitors. Since graduating from Central St Martins MA Menswear with distinction in 2002, Jones has developed a cult following for his refined, slouchy clothing and Americana worn layer on layer. The Face magazine named Kim Jones in their Top 100 people in Fashion in 2003. |
