“We deny someone’s claim on the Internet that ‘we worry about our thesis in the morning and about our marriage in the evening.’ We are busy, and diligent in our study,” said one respondent to the survey.
In recent years, the number of women doctoral candidates has increased dramatically. In 2004, women accounted for 34.8% of total doctoral candidates in China.
When asked about the origin of their happiness, 46.2% of the respondents choose happy marriage, and 30.8% choose scientific work, and 9.4% choose affluent life. Most respondents also deem that they will develop their independent career as well as contribute more time to the family.
The female doctoral candidates hope to find boyfriends who are capable in many fields. 57.3% of respondents think they and their husbands may have similar social status, and only 10.3% think their future husbands should have higher social status than themselves.
